Lewis Hamilton Blasts Ferrari Over Strategy Call at Tense F1 Miami Grand Prix

Hamilton, clearly agitated, complained about the situation:
“How far are people ahead of Charles? I’m just burning up my tyres behind him,” he said.

When told that Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli was around six seconds ahead of Leclerc, Hamilton’s tone grew sharper:
“So you want me to just sit here [behind Charles] the whole race?”

Despite Adami assuring that he would get back with an answer, Hamilton’s patience was wearing thin.
“This is not good teamwork. That’s all I’m gonna say,” he added, referencing a similar situation at the Chinese Grand Prix earlier this season:
“In China I got out of the way when you were on a different strategy!”

When Ferrari finally decided to allow a position swap, Hamilton’s sarcasm underlined his irritation:
“Ah! Have a tea break while you’re at it! Come on!”

Although the drivers did eventually switch positions, the order was reversed again later in the race as both Ferraris pushed to catch Antonelli ahead.

Hamilton’s first season at Ferrari has proven challenging so far, despite a sprint victory in China. Reflecting on the Miami weekend, the Brit acknowledged the unpredictable conditions:
“It’s been a tough year so far but… I never thought it was going to rain in Miami. It’s the first time we’ve been on track in the wet here and what a race it provided us,” he said following Saturday’s sprint.

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc had his own issues. He crashed ahead of the sprint race as rain intensified, and received a formal reprimand for continuing to drive a damaged and unsafe car.

According to the FIA’s ruling:

“Any driver whose car has significant and obvious damage to a structural component… must leave the track as soon as it is safe to do so,” citing the risk posed to the driver and others on track.

The stewards noted that Leclerc continued on despite hitting the wall at Turn 10 and only pulled off after being instructed by the team. This marked his first reprimand of the 2025 season.

As Ferrari navigates internal friction and inconsistent performances, all eyes will be on how the team handles mounting pressure in the coming rounds.
