Kevin Durant Still Celebrates Spoiling LeBron James’ Cavaliers Era, Spars with Fans Online

Kevin Durant is once again stirring things up on social media. The former NBA MVP recently clapped back at critics who accused him of derailing what could have been a LeBron James-led dynasty in Cleveland.

Before Durant joined the powerhouse Golden State Warriors in 2016, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving had orchestrated a legendary 3-1 comeback against that very team in the NBA Finals. With Kyrie ascending to stardom, many believed the Cavaliers were primed to dominate the league for years. But that narrative shifted dramatically when Durant joined forces with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green—reshaping the NBA landscape.

Years later, the sting of that decision still lingers for some fans. Old clips of the Cavaliers’ run resurface online, often with Durant tagged in frustrated posts. In true KD fashion, he didn’t hold back. Responding to one such clip, he sarcastically tweeted:

“I rejoice every morning that it didn’t happen.”

His jab didn’t sit well with fans, who quickly fired back—mocking Durant and the Suns’ early playoff exit. One user referenced the popular “Cancun” trope for eliminated teams, only for Durant to retort:

“Cancun is for guys like u. I go on better vacays.”

Durant also fielded criticism over how he left the Oklahoma City Thunder. As the face of the franchise, he had helped lead OKC to the NBA Finals and remained a key figure alongside Russell Westbrook. The real heartbreak came in 2016 when the Thunder blew a 3-1 lead to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals—only for Durant to join them weeks later in free agency.

The move still draws ire from fans, who frequently brand him a “snake” for jumping ship. Durant, unbothered, responded with more sarcasm:

“HAAAAA I love that you’ll be mad forever.”

With the Suns out of playoff contention, Durant appears to be embracing the offseason by doing what he does best—mixing it up with fans online, one tweet at a time.
