Jack Doohan Dropped by Alpine as Franco Colapinto Steps In for Next Five Races

Alpine has officially confirmed that Jack Doohan will step down from his Formula 1 race seat, with Franco Colapinto set to replace him for the next five Grands Prix, beginning at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Doohan, 22, loses his place after a disappointing start to the 2025 season, failing to score a point in his six races. His teammate, Pierre Gasly, has collected seven points during the same stretch. The decision marks a significant shift in Alpine’s approach as the team evaluates its driver options for 2026 and beyond.

The team’s statement read:

“As part of an ongoing assessment of its driver line-up, the team has made the decision to rotate one of its race seats for the next five rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. Jack Doohan remains an integral part of the team and will be the first-choice Reserve Driver during this period.”

The reshuffle comes just hours after the sudden resignation of team principal Oliver Oakes, with Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore stepping in to assume his responsibilities temporarily.

Briatore commented:

“With the field so closely matched this year and the car significantly improved, we felt it was the right time to try something different. Franco deserves this opportunity, and we’ll re-evaluate our line-up after the British Grand Prix.”

Doohan expressed disappointment but remained composed:

“This is a tough moment, but I respect the team’s decision. I remain committed to our shared goals and will support the team however I can.”

Colapinto, 21, impressed during a brief substitute stint at Williams last season and is eager to prove himself in a full-time role.

“I’m grateful to Alpine for this opportunity. I’ve stayed sharp with simulator work and testing, and I’m ready to give it my all,” said the Argentine, who will race with number 43.

He will partner Gasly at Imola and continue through the Monaco, Spanish, Canadian, and Austrian Grands Prix. His performance across these events will be key in determining Alpine’s long-term driver strategy.
