Carlos Alcaraz received telling-off from Wimbledon and was told they’d stop him playing

Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning Wimbledon champion, has revealed a telling off he received from the All England Club due to a breach of their strict dress code. The 21-year-old Spaniard, who has claimed back-to-back titles at SW19, was warned that he wouldn’t be allowed to play his next match if he continued to violate the all-white attire rule.

In his new Netflix docuseries My Way, Alcaraz shared the incident where he wore coloured briefs beneath his white shorts, a violation that was spotted by tournament officials. “They called me out on them, saying, ‘Next time, we won’t let you play,’” Alcaraz recalled, highlighting the strictness of Wimbledon’s dress code.

The incident served as a lesson for the world No. 3, who now follows the traditions of Wimbledon without fail. Despite this early slip-up, Alcaraz has since become a dominant force at the tournament, defeating Novak Djokovic in two consecutive finals. In 2023, Alcaraz triumphed in a thrilling five-set final, and in 2024, he won the title in straight sets, claiming his second consecutive Wimbledon championship.

Alcaraz’s next goal is a hat-trick of Wimbledon titles, as he returns to the prestigious grass courts this summer. His last loss at the tournament came in 2022, when he was defeated by Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.
