Russell Martin is facing a major headache ahead of the new season, as one of Rangers’ key players, Nicolas Raskin, is now reportedly “ready to quit” the club this summer, according to fresh reports.
Urgent Preparations Ahead of Panathinaikos Clash
With a two-legged Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos kicking off on July 22, new manager Martin and 49ers Enterprises are pushing hard to complete signings before the crucial tie.
“I honestly don’t know, but I think we’ll have a few [new players] in before the European game, that’s for sure. Everyone is working extremely hard. Over the last week or so, we’ve focused on identifying the right characters and talent that can add to this group, both culturally and in terms of performance,” said Martin.
So far, Rangers have confirmed two summer arrivals: midfielder Lyall Cameron, who signed a pre-contract in February, and right-back Max Aarons, who joins on loan from Bournemouth.
Raskin Ready to Quit – But Only for a Top League
Despite Martin’s clear desire to build his squad around Raskin and Hamza Igamane, troubling news has emerged regarding Raskin’s future. According to Ibrox News, the 24-year-old Belgian is now “ready to quit” Rangers and may soon inform the club of his decision.
However, Raskin is only open to a move if a club from a top-tier league shows strong interest. He has previously been linked with Aston Villa and Leeds United – the latter also owned by 49ers Enterprises.
Raskin’s 2024/25 Stats:
-
Games: 48
-
Goals: 5
-
Assists: 11
-
Yellow Cards: 11
-
Red Cards: 0
-
Minutes Played: 3,845
Since arriving in January 2023, Raskin has made 95 appearances for Rangers, with nearly half coming in the 2024/25 season under both Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson.
Although there is “no guarantee” a move will happen just yet, the transfer window remains open until September 1, meaning an exit is a real possibility.
Losing such a pivotal player just weeks before the start of the new campaign would be a major blow — and Martin’s worst nightmare might be turning into reality.
