As Mirra Andreeva prepares to turn 18, the rising tennis star admits she’s a little scared about stepping into adulthood. Despite her incredible success — already a WTA 1000 champion and a top-10 player before even hitting her milestone birthday — the Russian teen confessed that she still feels like a kid at heart.
Speaking to Tennis Channel, the world No. 7 shared an honest reflection:
“I don’t want to be responsible for myself,” Andreeva said.
Looking back, she noted how much she’s grown over the past year.
“Twelve months ago, I was still surprised by how I played and the players I could beat. Now, I trust myself more on the court. I know what to expect from myself during matches. I’m more confident in my tennis,” she added.
Though she’s being compared to legends like Maria Sharapova, Andreeva — under the mentorship of former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez — is being taught to stay patient and not rush the journey toward Grand Slam glory.
For now, the 17-year-old is focused on her game, steadily making progress. She’s currently competing in the Madrid Open, where she’s set for a round-of-16 clash against Yulia Starodubtseva.
The tennis world is watching — and it’s clear that this teenager’s story is just beginning.
