Big blow: Carlos Alcaraz currently very unlikely to play at 2025 Madrid Open due to adductor injury

Carlos Alcaraz’s participation in the 2025 Madrid Open is in serious doubt following a right adductor injury sustained during the final of the Barcelona Open against Holger Rune. The World No. 3’s recovery is complicated by the short turnaround between Barcelona and Madrid, putting his appearance at the prestigious clay-court event in jeopardy.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who had shown strong form throughout the European clay swing, including winning his first Monte Carlo Masters title, acknowledged the uncertainty regarding his status for Madrid.

“Physically, I feel fine. I’ve had tests and we’ll see what the results say,” Alcaraz shared. “I’m used to playing with some discomfort. Hopefully, I’ll be able to enjoy Madrid.”

Alcaraz, who reached the quarterfinals in Madrid last year, defending important ranking points, now faces the challenge of deciding whether to play or focus on recovery ahead of the Rome Masters and Roland Garros. Should Alcaraz be forced to withdraw, the immediate focus will shift to his rehabilitation and future schedule, as the clay season intensifies.
