Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur has called for calm amid growing scrutiny over Lewis Hamilton’s challenging start to life in red.
Despite a standout sprint victory in China—his first taste of success since joining Ferrari from Mercedes—Hamilton has largely struggled to match the pace of team-mate Charles Leclerc in the opening rounds of the 2025 season.
The seven-time World Champion admitted he’s still adapting to his new surroundings, with Ferrari rolling out a completely new car design for the year.
When asked by RacingNews365 if the team was doing enough to support Hamilton, Vasseur defended the approach, emphasizing that Ferrari is providing equal backing to both drivers.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s Lewis, Charles, or Carlos last year – we’re always trying to do the best for the drivers and to find a good balance in the car for them,” Vasseur said.
He added that fans and media alike may have overreacted following Hamilton’s sprint win in China, calling for a more measured outlook as the season unfolds.
“You were all a bit more enthusiastic on Saturday evening in China… and we have to calm down a little bit.”
According to Vasseur, the 2025 Ferrari isn’t a carryover model and still requires fine-tuning. The margin for error in setup is razor-thin, with even a tenth of a second dramatically altering driver feedback.
“Sometimes, for one tenth, you can feel the balance is not a good one at all or not that bad.”
Despite the rocky start, team morale remains strong. Vasseur praised the unity within Ferrari and the collaborative effort between Hamilton and Leclerc.
“The very positive point is we’re working as a team. The two drivers are pushing in the same direction. We have a good atmosphere in the team, and this will help us come back.”
With the Miami Grand Prix up next, Ferrari will be hoping Hamilton’s adaptation continues on an upward curve—and that the team’s cooperative energy starts translating into more consistent race-day results.
