Formula 1 star George Russell made headlines this week after being spotted taking a spin through the streets of Monaco in a jaw-dropping $5.45 million Mercedes AMG One Hypercar. The Mercedes driver was accompanied by his girlfriend Carmen Mundt and fellow F1 driver Alex Albon from the Williams team.
The sighting, which quickly went viral on social media, caught attention not just for the high-profile company but also for the extravagant wheels. The AMG One is one of the most exclusive and advanced cars ever produced by Mercedes, blending Formula 1 engineering with road-ready luxury. Its iconic scissor doors were seen wide open, showing off the car’s sleek design and Russell’s racing number ’63’.
What makes this hypercar truly special is its 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain, directly derived from Mercedes’ championship-winning F1 engine. It produces a combined 1,063 horsepower and features cutting-edge aerodynamic elements, making it a rare street-legal marvel. Former F1 driver Christijan Albers previously described it as “a once-in-a-lifetime project” that captures the essence of modern, eco-conscious motorsport technology.
Russell, who has stepped up this season as Mercedes’ team leader following the exit of Lewis Hamilton, has had a solid start. He qualified third in Jeddah and finished fifth in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just ahead of his young teammate, Italian rookie Kimi Antonelli. While Russell admitted tyre issues held him back from reaching the podium, he remained optimistic:
“My tyres dropped off the cliff, and it was all about just bringing the car home in P5. That was the maximum available today.”
It was a productive weekend for Williams as well, with both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon finishing in the points.
With a promising start to the season and off-track moments that keep fans buzzing, Russell seems to be embracing both the pressure and perks of F1 stardom.
