Mirra Andreeva Advances in Stuttgart as Sister Erika Retires Injured

Mirra Andreeva moved into the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart after her sister Erika Andreeva was forced to retire due to injury during their emotional first-round clash.

This was the second-ever professional meeting between the two sisters. Erika had won the first one in Wuhan last year, but this time it was 17-year-old Mirra—currently ranked No. 7 in the world—who had the upper hand.

Erika, ranked No. 97, started strong by breaking Mirra’s serve in the opening game, but momentum quickly shifted. Mirra, fresh off her Indian Wells title, dominated the first set 6-2. Erika then took a medical timeout for a right knee issue and retired early in the second set, trailing 6-2, 1-0.

The sisters shared a heartfelt hug at the net.

“We share the same room, so of course I knew what she’s been going through,” said Mirra in her post-match interview.
“I should be happy I won, but I’m super sad it ended like that. She’ll recover and come back strong.”

Mirra will now face Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round.

Swiatek Cruises into Third Round

Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek, the two-time Stuttgart champion and No. 2 seed, breezed past qualifier Jana Fett with a 6-2, 6-2 win in her second-round match.

Fett had surprised many by beating Donna Vekic in the first round, but Swiatek showed her class with two quick breaks in the first set and a strong comeback after Fett took an early lead in the second.

Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam winner, will now face the winner of Emma Navarro vs. Jelena Ostapenko in the third round.
