CFR Cluj has officially welcomed back Karlo Muhar, the Croatian midfielder who returns to Gruia after a one-year stint in Saudi Arabia. At 29, Muhar rejoins the Romanian club as a free agent, having been persuaded by club owner Neluțu Varga, despite strong interest from FCSB and its owner Gigi Becali.
After spending two successful seasons at CFR Cluj, Muhar was transferred in 2024 to Al Orobah for €1.5 million. Now, he’s back in Cluj, ready for a new chapter.
Welcome Home, Karlo Muhar
CFR Cluj announced his return with excitement on social media:
“Welcome back, Karlo Muhar!
We’re thrilled to announce that one of the most beloved midfielders in recent years is returning to Gruia. Karlo Muhar is officially part of our team once again.
He previously wore the burgundy shirt during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, racking up 97 appearances, 18 goals, and, above all, winning the hearts of our fans through his dedication and determination.
It’s time for a new journey together. Karlo, welcome back home!”
Muhar’s Impact in Numbers
Valued at €1.5 million on Transfermarkt, Karlo Muhar made a significant impact during his first spell at CFR Cluj. Between 2022 and 2024, he appeared in 97 matches, scored 18 goals, and provided 5 assists. He initially joined the club from Lech Poznań in the summer of 2022 for a modest fee of €100,000.
Gigi Becali Reacts to Losing Out on Muhar
Following CFR Cluj’s successful move, FCSB’s owner Gigi Becali admitted that Muhar had been part of his plans.
“He went to CFR Cluj? That’s how it is. I’m disappointed because Muhar is a very good player.
Yes, I wanted him. I had plans for him. But if Neluțu Varga convinced him, there’s nothing more I can do,” Becali said, as quoted by Digi Sport.
