As he continues his strong run at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Carlos Alcaraz has shared his thoughts on what a potential clash with Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros would mean.
Alcaraz, currently ranked World No. 3, recently secured his spot in the Monte-Carlo final after a solid 7-6, 6-3 win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He’s now set to face Lorenzo Musetti in pursuit of his sixth Masters 1000 title.
During his post-match press conference, Alcaraz was asked about Djokovic’s form and the possibility of meeting the Serbian star at the French Open.
“It’s always great playing against Djokovic,” Alcaraz said. “It’s always tough against him—you can see what his level is.”
He added, “Could be great, why not? But it’s still super far away. A lot can happen during the tournament or even the week before, so let’s see.”
Djokovic’s form has been under the spotlight in recent months. Despite being a consistent presence in Monte Carlo over the years—winning the title twice and reaching the final two other times—he made an early exit this year, losing his opening match to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo.
Tabilo now leads their head-to-head 2–0, having also beaten Djokovic at the 2023 Italian Open. In Monte Carlo, Djokovic appeared out of rhythm, while Tabilo played sharp, confident tennis to secure another impressive win over the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Still, Masters 1000 events have not been Djokovic’s primary focus in recent seasons. He’s made it clear that Grand Slam titles remain his top priority, and despite recent setbacks, he’ll likely enter Roland Garros as one of the top contenders. Alcaraz, meanwhile, will be returning to defend his crown in Paris.
So far, Djokovic holds a 5–3 lead in their head-to-head record, including a 2–1 edge on clay. Their most notable battle came in the final of the 2024 Olympic Games, where Djokovic ended Alcaraz’s 12-match clay winning streak to claim his long-awaited Olympic gold medal.
