Tennis Analyst Blasts Swiatek’s Mindset: ‘You’re Not the Only One Getting Hate

Tennis analyst Gill Gross recently scrutinized Iga Swiatek’s letter to her fans after a controversial incident at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Swiatek had been criticized for an outburst during her semifinal loss to Mirra Andreeva, where she hit a ball back at a ball kid. While no one was hurt, the action sparked backlash.

After the match, Swiatek addressed the situation in an Instagram post, expressing her frustrations with being criticized whether she expressed her emotions or not. Gross appreciated the honesty in her message but disagreed with her stance that she was singled out for abuse. Gross pointed out that every tennis player, including Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka, faces online hate and that no one is immune to it.

He advised Swiatek to shift her perspective and focus on managing the negativity instead of adopting a “victim mentality.”

Gross also commented on Swiatek’s recent form, suggesting that her struggles might stem from her mental state, as she had to defend many points after losing the World No. 1 ranking to Sabalenka. He also hinted that there could be other factors behind the scenes affecting her performance.

Despite these challenges, Swiatek remains a top contender on clay courts, with her next event being the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
