Veteran Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle may already know who will win the 2025 drivers’ title – and former world champion Damon Hill has shed light on how.
After the first six races of the season, Oscar Piastri leads the standings, holding a 16-point advantage over his McLaren teammate Lando Norris. Meanwhile, reigning champion Max Verstappen is in third, managing just one win in what’s been a rocky start to his title defense.
While Verstappen has dominated the past four seasons, both Piastri and Norris are still hunting for their first championship, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown.
But Hill, the 1996 F1 World Champion, says Brundle’s years of experience give him a unique edge in identifying the future champion—often long before the rest of the world catches on.
“He Can Spot a Champion a Mile Away” – Hill
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Hill explained:
“Having worked with Sky for a number of years, I now understand how everything in F1 is interpreted and analyzed. Martin Brundle, with all his experience, can spot a future champion just from a driver’s demeanor and body language. He’s seen it all before.”
Hill went on to say that the psychological side of racing plays a huge role at this level:
“Drivers are constantly sizing each other up—it’s part of the game. In elite sport, mentality is everything. And in today’s world, where social media magnifies every interaction, the impression a driver gives off is more important than ever.”
Brundle’s Eye for Talent
Brundle, a former F1 driver himself, has become one of the most respected voices in the sport through his commentary and grid interviews. Last weekend, he was in Miami as part of Sky Sports’ coverage and, despite an awkward moment during his pre-race grid walk—mistakenly congratulating Conor Benn on a fight won by Chris Eubank Jr.—he was back in the booth providing sharp analysis when the lights went out.
Piastri went on to win the Miami Grand Prix—his fourth win of the season—edging out Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell, strengthening his position at the top of the standings.
As the 2025 title race intensifies, it seems Martin Brundle may already have his bet placed—not based on numbers alone, but on instinct, presence, and the mental game every top driver plays.
